Pay Online using ‘UPI’ without Internet, How ?

You may come across instances when you want to make a payment using UPI but are unable to do so due to slow internet speeds or maybe you are only getting 2G reception, which is not enough for making UPI transactions online. Many do not know but there is a way to use UPI in offline mode as well using the *99# USSD code on your phone’s dialer.

The *99# service was introduced to include all mobile users, irrespective of whether they use a smartphone or not, to be included in the UPI ecosystem. If the phone number you are using is linked to your bank account then you can avail all facilitles of UPI using *99#

For smartphone users, using UPI via *99# may make little sense as they have access to UPI apps but for feature phones, the *99# USSD code is the only choice for paying via UPI.

This feature has been there for quite some time but is not that popular, here is how you can pay digitally using UPI without internet.

Make sure that your phone number is linked with your bank account. If you haven’t registered for UPI, you can also do it following the USSD codes.

STEP-1 : Open the dialer of your phone and enter *99# and tap on the call button.

STEP-2: You will see a menu with a lot of options but since we are only sending money type number 1 and tap on send.

STEP-3: Select the information you have from the payment receiver, type the number and tap on send. For example we have the mobile number of the UPI merchant then we have to type 1 and tap on send.

STEP -4: Enter the mobile number that is linked to the UPI account of the merchant and tap send.

STEP-5: Enter the amount and Press send

STEP-6: Enter a remark for the Payment.

STEP-7: Enter your UPI pin to complete the transaction.

STEP-8:Your UPI transaction will be complete without using the internet.

Here is how to disable UPI using *99#

STEP-1: Open the dialer on your phone and enter *99#

STEP-2: Select Option 4 from the options list.

STEP-3: Tape number 7 and tap on send to deregister from UPI.

STEP-4: Press 1 to confirm that you want to deregister from UPI.
