Tamil Nadu NEET Counselling 2017 – State Quota Registration, Schedule, Cutoffs, Merit List

Tamil Nadu NEET 2017 Counselling – State Quota Counselling for MBBS/BDS admissions in Govt, Private/ Self financed Colleges is all set to start from July 17. Tami Nadu has reserved 85% of total medical seats under the state quota for students who had pursued Class 12 education under the state board. “The move was to protect the interests of 4.2 lakh Tamil Nadu students who constitute over 90% of the total number of Class XII students, adding only 4,685 students were from the CBSE stream” said TN health minister. The state government has opposed NEET but is yet to receive the presidential assent for the two Bills passed by it in the assembly seeking exemption from common entrance test. Read below two cases carefully.

CASE I: If the Assent for the said Bill is received from His Excellency The President of India, before the date of declaration of merit list then the admission for the MBBS/BDS courses for the year 2017-2018 shall be made on basis of +2/Equivalent Board of
Examination marks for the 85% of State Quota seats in Government Medical Colleges and Government Quota seats in Self Financing Private Medical Colleges including the seats surrendered to Government by Rajah Muthiah Medical and Dental College,
Annamalai University, Chidambaram. The Management Quota seats in Self Financing Private Medical/ Dental Colleges including NRI Quota shall be filled up on the basis NEET score only.

Case 2:
In case the Assent for the said Bill by His Excellency The President of India is not received before the date of declaration of rank list then the admission shall be made on the basis NEET score for the MBBS/BDS courses for the year 2017-2018 for the State Quota seats in Government Medical Colleges and Government Quota seats in Self Financing Private Medical Colleges including the seats surrendered to Government by Rajah Muthiah Medical and Dental College, Annamalai University, Chidambaram and also for the Management Quota seats in Self Financing Private Medical/Dental Colleges including NRI Quota.

Since NEET 2017 is the basis of admission, to ensure that fair opportunity is given to the candidates from different boards, out of the State Quota seats in Government Medical Colleges and Government Quota seats in Self Financing Private Medical Colleges including the seats surrendered to Government by Rajah Muthiah Medical and Dental College, Annamalai University, Chidambaram, 85% of the seats shall be earmarked to the students who have studied in the Tamil Nadu State Board only with the rest available for the other boards even though on a pro-rata basis 95% or more students appeared in the State Board and only 5% or less appeared in the remaining Boards. This policy of the Government is to facilitate the students from all the parts of the State to get an opportunity to study medicine. Within the State two allocations of admission would be based on the Rule of Reservations as applicable with NEET ranking.

As per early estimates, NEET 2017 score in range of 430+ is good enough to get you a Govt college if you fall in unreserved or general category. However, it my change over the course of time and can not be confirmed at the moment. The competition vs no of seats in college is low which will benefit students who did not get high scores in NEET 2017.

How to Apply for Tamil Nadu NEET 2017 Counselling:

Candidates seeking admission to MBBS/BDS Courses 2017-2018 session in Tamil Nadu Government Medical Colleges, Government Seats in Self Financing Medical Colleges affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University & Rajah Muthiah Medical College (Annamalai University) should submit the filled in application form with necessary enclosures and Demand Draft for 500/- ( which is Non-refundable) towards the cost of application form drawn in favour of The Secretary, Selection- 13 -Committee, Kilpauk, Chennai – 10 payable at Chennai which should reach on or before 08.07.2017 by 5.00 P.M. to the following address:

Note: SC/SCA (Arunthathiyar) and ST candidates who are natives of Tamil Nadu are exempted from payment of the cost of the Application.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Aspirant should be an Indian Nationals or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI).
  • The Minimum age of the candidate should be 17 years as on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
  • He/she should posses domicile of Tamilnadu in order to take part in state quota counselling.
  • Aspirant must have passed 10+2 with 50% marks (40% marks for SC/ST and 45% marks all other candidates).
  • Candidates who have passed 10+2 with PCB and English are eligible to take admission in medical courses.
  • Nativity :
    (a) Candidates should be Native of Tamilnadu.
    (b) Candidates who have studied Classes VIII to XII Classes in schools in Tamilnadu
    need not submit the “ Nativity Certificate”.
    (c) Candidates who are Native of Tamilnadu but studied from VIII to XII Std either
    partly or completely in schools situated outside Tamilnadu should produce the “Nativity Certificate”.
    (d) The Certificate of Nativity in Tamilnadu should be issued by the competent
    authority only in the specified format given in the prospectus (Annexure XIII b) and
    supported by a photocopy of Passport/ Ration Card / Birth Certificate. If the copy of
    the supporting document is not produced, then the application form will be rejected.
    Nativity Certificate submitted after the deadline will also be summarily rejected.
    (e) Filled-in application forms without a proper Nativity Certificate will not be
    considered. Permanent Residence Certificate in lieu of Nativity Certificate will not be accepted.
